Mental health risks & patterns among on-campus resident students during the COVID-19 pandemic

Objective: This study examined the effects of COVID-19 global pandemic on mental health and well-being college students residing in a rural community. Particular attention was paid to student gender identity sexual orientation. Eligible reported their statuses, coping strategies, distresses, demographics, original items capture students’ experiences. Participants: Participants were 372 undergraduate graduate student's living residence halls or on-campus housing enrolled public university between January March 2021. Methods: Univariate bivariate statistical analyses utilized. Open-text responses about navigating challenges during are summarized. Results: Students who identified as LGBTQ+ (p<0.001) non-binary (p=0.0022) scored significantly higher depressive symptoms, while year school, race, ethnicity did not appear play role overall status. Conclusion: can be used help enhance current services offered on-campus, especially for face burden risks.
